Washer Agitator Repair Video

Always disconnect power before performing any repairs.
The agitator dogs allow the agitator to spin the agitator around. If your agitator will not turn, agitator turns some, agitator turns slowly, agitator makes noise your agitator dogs are likely the cause. The rebuild kit is inexpensive and easy to replace. To inspect your agitator dogs first open the lid to your washer.

Grab the dispenser on the top of the agitator. Pull this off. Sometimes there will be tabs that need to be pressed in as your pulling it off. Next there will be a cover covering the agitator dogs. Remove this cover with a flathead screwdriver. Do this by prying it off the agitator. Now you can look down at the agitator dogs. The agitator is designed to only turn one way and the agitator dogs teeth engage when trying to turn it backwards. If the agitator dogs do not properly engage they must be replaced.

To do this remove the center nut from the agitator.

Now pull the whole agitator assembly out.

The agitator is a 2 piece design and can now be pulled apart.

The top section holds the dogs. Remove the center piece of the top section of the agitator. This should just pull out by grasping it firmly and turn and pull.

The dogs fit into this piece. Put new dogs in.

Slide piece back into top section. Slide top section back onto the lower agitator section.

Install center nut. Replace cover.

Install dispenser. Try agitator by hand should only agitate in one direction.
